Welcome to BarCamp San Antonio, the UnConference Conference for San Antonio.
On November 9th, 2019 we will be hosting BarCamp San Antonio at Launch SA in the downtown Library.
Don’t know what a BarCamp is?
BarCamp San Antonio is an unconference conference where the attendees are the presenters. Where the hallways are meant to be filled with side conversations and ideation of the future of San Antonio.
Put on with the support of multiple organizations, this conference is not about sponsors, being seen or headlining.
It is about San Antonio’s talent coming together and sharing their projects, their hopes for San Antonio and to develop rhizomatic relationships in an effort to imagine San Antonio’s future collectively.
Held at Launch SA (Or Geekdom), this short conference is meant to tip off an annual meeting of talent to share their successes, challenges and hopes for the developing their ideas of the future of San Antonio.
Date: November 9th, 2019
Location: Launch San Antonio
Who is the Talent of San Antonio?
You Are!
If you made it this far in the description it means you should come and share your ideas and projects! Bring show and tell and engage others in how we can imagine the future of San Antonio together.
Why this model?
Because traditional models tend to tell people what future should be rather then facilitate the collective imagination of the future. BarCamps are where ideas and implementation of ideas are discovered, shared and started.
How can you get involved?
Register
To register for the conference please visit out Eventbrite Page.
Then email and let me know you want to be involved and in what preferred capacity.
We will need volunteers for the day of. Some in kind donations for the venue, the food, the swag, live streaming.
The best way to help will be to get this message out, as the most important thing you can do as an attendee and presenter is facilitate participation by others.
If you would like to be a sponsor in an effort to get the message out we will have “ideation support” area with booths.
We will also have an open ended creative space for people to hack, ideate and create art on the fly.
What is the conference format?
We will take the number of attendees who wish to present, rooms available and time and create a grid for presentations. In most cases most everyone gets to present, in some cases we vote on the presentation topics and pick the highest rated when time and space are the constraints.
What will the topics be?
Well we won’t know til everyone gets there and proposes their talks/presentations/workshops. But here are some informal tracks I have been thinking about:
- Arts Advocacy
- Voting
- Education
- Nightlife Industry
- Education Programs
- Health and Wellness (including mental health)
- Local Media
- Non Profits
- Downtown
- Technology and Talent
- Emerald City Innovation
- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
- Economic development
- Music Industry
What does this cost?
It is FREE! That’s right it is free and open to the public.
There are two simple rules to coming:
You give 100 percent.
You stay for only the time you feel like.
